I came across this blog post while attempting to find out more info about a Classic Games Company Chess set I found in my home. It is "1776" but it is a chess table, with board table top, attachable legs, and pieces. It is a limited edition of 2000 made in 1978. Have you ever heard of this edition?
ReplyDeleteSorry I have been away.. Could you maybe post a picture? I am not aware that they ever sold a actual wooden table with the 1776 series
DeleteHello..
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for an exclusive chess set that could tempt anyone to plan a move, you might want to consider new limited edition chess sets from Chessmaze International, one of the premium online chess sellers in the UK. A beautiful work of art and highlight of the collection, the Andalusian Limited Edition Blood Rosewood Chess Set, priced at £1,195 ($1,900) is available in a limited run of 250 pieces.

I found a Chess Set. The following is the collection series I have.
ReplyDeleteEdition II ~ Napoleon Bonaparte 1804 – 1814
What is the value of this?
I have Edition V set 500. Can you give me any information about production year? I'm trying to sell would like to give as much information as I can. Thanks
ReplyDeleteheyas, thank you for the listing! i have an edition ii, but i'm trying to figure out which number it is. are there any images?
ReplyDeletethe king is apparently 4 3/4" tall (not 4 1/4 nor 5, so i'm confused); the set is in gold tone and silvertone, has a gold and black chessboard, and comes in a blue cardboard box with imprinted texture, like a leather texture, and blue-flocked cardboard inserts that hold the pieces.
i didn't think the pieces were weighted... but then again, i wouldn't know. can you tell me if the blue textured cardboard box is the 'leatherette presentation chest'? or if the set 201/202 have gold and silver pieces that are not 'hand antiqued'?
this would help me so much! thank you!

ReplyDeleteFor all you real classic chess set admirers. I have the original Beryllium Copper castings that made the American Revolution Bicentennial “1776” and the Ancient Rome 264 B.C. – 14 A.D sets.
ReplyDeleteThese were made at Ferriot Inc. in Akron Ohio back in the 70's, where I have been currently working for 31 years. Lots of history here. They were made for the Classic Games Co. There is so much detail in these castings like Ben Franklins hand with glasses to the crack in the liberty bell.
If anyone would like send me your email address and I will send you some pictures.

Does anybody know how to contact Classic Games, specifically, who owns the design patents to these great chess sets? The plastics used back in the 50's and 60's get brittle with age and sets that haven't been damaged from play are starting to get scarce. I've been approached by friends over the years to cast replacement pieces and even whole sets from resin but I'm not doing it for free so to avoid going to court, I need to look staying legal.
